Another area of a catchers' body that needs to be protected from stray baseballs and bats are the lower legs. It's a good idea to protect your knees and shins, if you are catching. Most pads are built of a lightweight composite material for maximum outer protection with foam inner padding and nylon lining, to keep you cool and dry. They have Velcro straps for proper fit, wings for side leg protection and toe guards. Shin guards come in various sizes and colors. Batters also need to protect themselves from foul balls, so there are also similar leg pads available for them, which cover the ankles and shins. Guards are available in various materials, sizes and colors.
