All About Kayaks

Kayaks differ from canoes as they generally have a covered deck and are paddled from a seated position with double ended paddles. They are typically made of inflatable material, wood, molded plastic, fiberglass, Kevlar or some other composite material. There are various types and sizes of kayaks including sea kayaks, tandems (two person crafts), sit-on-tops and white-water kayaks. You should buy a kayak based on the type of water and kayaking you will be encountering. White water kayaks should be shorter as they need to maneuver in tight spots. Sea kayaks should be longer as they are faster and easier to paddle. Check the kayak out thoroughly before buying it and make sure you are comfortable in it. Make sure the kayak is durable and will tolerate bumps and scrapes. Kayaks come in various colors.
