All About Cricket Balls

If you've ever been hit in the past with a spinning cricket ball, coming at you at about 90 miles per hour, you know how hard they can be. Balls are a little softer now as they are made of a rubber and have a cork centre, with wool wrapping. The cricket balls are hand stitched with leather, which is then dipped into chemicals and oil to make it waterproof and then it is polished. Cricket balls have six rows of stitching and better balls are made of four pieces of leather instead of two. Official balls weigh 5.5 ounces and are nine inches in diameter. Synthetic, weather-proof balls are also available for practice on concrete. While cricket balls have traditionally been dark red in color, other colors are now becoming available.
