A good strong durable set of wickets is needed for a proper game of cricket. Cricket wickets are actually made up of stumps, which are three posts measuring an inch in diameter and 32 inches high. They are spike-shaped at the bottom and are hammered in the ground in an evenly spaced row, so that a cricket ball cannot pass through them. The bails are two small wooden cross pieces, which sit in grooves on top of the stumps. Wicket sets have been traditionally made out of wood, however, there are some synthetic sets available now. It's a good idea to have a spare set.
