All About Croquet Hoops

A croquet hoop consists of two vertical uprights joined by a horizontal crown. There are six hoops used in a regulation croquet game. All hoops must be standing 12 inches above the ground after they are fixed-in. There are generally three types of hoops, these being cast/welded metal, metal tube and wire hoops. Only cast welded metal ones are suitable for tournaments though. They are usually made of iron or aluminum, but they are brittle and can snap or bend. Hoops can be painted or unpainted, but they should be painted regularly to stop them from corroding and weakening. Croquet hoops should be stripped every few years and repainted after applying a rust inhibitor.
