All About Curling Shoes

Because curling is played on ice, you should wear special curling shoes that give you a solid grip. The sole on one of the shoes has a thin strip of Teflon or other type of smooth surface. This allows the curlers to slide out of the hack when delivering a curling stone. Left handed curlers wear this special shoe on their right foot and right handed curlers wear it on their left foot. The opposite shoe has a thin layer of rubber on the sole to maximize traction on the ice. Another piece of foot wear that curlers use is called the gripper. This item is made to slide on and off of the shoe with the slippery surface. A gripper is usually made of rubber and it is worn when a player is sweeping and needs good traction on both feet. Make sure your curling shoes fit well and are comfortable. Curling shoes come in a wide variety of styles, colors and sizes.
