Although darts is very simple to play, there are few types of darts to choose from as the drums are made of brass, nickel/silver and tungsten. Brass darts are fairly dense as brass is a heavy metal, but they are the most inexpensive and easy to machine. However, it is so soft that the grip often dulls and wears down causing the feel of the dart to change. Nickel/silver darts are also fairly dense and relatively inexpensive, but they are harder and more durable, which prevents the machined grip from wearing away as quickly. Tungsten darts are made of extremely dense metal, which is very durable, so it resists wear and the grip will last longer. There are four rough categories of tungsten darts which are identified by the percentage of tungsten in them. You should try out a few darts before buying them to see which type, weight and grip you are most comfortable with.
