All About Fencing Masks
If every fencer looks the same to you it’s probably because of the Darth Vader type masks they all wear, but these masks are essential to protect your face and eyes. The mask will protect your head and face and have a padded bib to cover and protect your neck. Make sure you get a mask for the weapon you will be fencing with. The mask must be tested and able to withstand about 25 pounds of force. Your mask should be lightweight and well padded with cushions for your jaw and chin to rest on. A good mask will also have a removable liner that can be washed or replaced. The liner should be able to absorb sweat to keep you cool and dry. Make sure the mask is adjustable and fits well and that you can see properly out of it. Masks come in various sizes and materials.
