All About Field Hockey Balls

Field hockey is usually played outdoor, but in some countries, with harsh weather conditions, it can be played indoors too. The balls used indoor are similar to those used outdoor. Years ago, cricket balls made of cork centers wrapped in twine and leather were used, but most balls are now made of solid or hollow plastic or composite material and weigh about 5 1/2 ounces. Official balls are about nine inches in diameter. Balls now come in various design and color. Game balls have dimples or indentations similar to golf balls, but practice balls may be different. If struck properly the ball can reach speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
