Goalkeepers are required to wear protective headgear, which includes a full helmet with full face protection, but with a hard ball coming at you at almost 100 miles per hour I don't think you have to force them to wear the equipment. The helmets are basically the same as ice hockey models and are made of a hard composite outer shell with foam padding on the inside. The helmet should be lightweight and adjustable to fit you properly. It's also important to find a well ventilated model that keeps you cool. The face shields are attachable and come in a cage style for maximum visibility and protection; this also protects your chin. Throat protectors should also be added or come with the helmet.
