The goaltender is really the only player on the field to be fully protected, but the rules of the game in most leagues make mouthpieces and shin guards mandatory for everybody else. Because of the hardness of the ball, shin guards are very strong. Many pads are constructed of foam with a hard lightweight composite exterior for protection. The pads should also cover your ankle bones. Ventilation holes will keep you comfortable, cool and dry. Shin guards come in various sizes and colors. There are various mouthpieces on the market, but you should get one that protects you properly by absorbing shocks and letting you breathe easily. Pads come in various materials and sizes.
