All About Fishing Reels

There are basically three types of reels, spin cast (closed faced) spinning (open faced) and bait cast. Each reel has a spool which holds the line and will be marked to let you know how much line it can hold and the test line weight. Make sure you learn how to use your reel properly and how to set the drag on it. If you don't, you may find your line snapping and your fish disappearing. Spin cast and bait cast reels sit on the top of the rod, so they require a casting rod, Spinning reels require spinning rods because they attach to the underside of the rod. Make sure you are comfortable with your reel and practice with it to become a better fisherman or woman. Reels are sold either separately or built into the rod.
