All About Football Shoulder Pads

Every area of a football player's body should be protected properly and shoulder pads are needed to help nullify against injuries, such as shoulder separations and dislocations. The pads consist of a hard outer shell made of plastic with foam padding underneath to absorb and distribute the shock. Make sure the pads fit properly over the shoulder, chest and rib area, but still allow you freedom of movement. The pads are adjustable with either straps, buckles or Velcro. They should be lightweight to keep you cool and dry, but should also give you the protection needed. Shoulder pads come in various materials and styles, usually for each position, and some can be bought with an added flak jacket at the bottom, for quarterbacks or players with rib injuries.
