Most eye injuries in sports are serious, but preventable. All handball players must wear protective eyewear at all times, while playing, to protect eyes from being injured by the ball. Lensed eye protection designed for court sports, with polycarbonate lenses of at least 3mm center thickness, is recommended. It's also a good idea to make sure the lenses are scratch and fog resistant. Make sure your eyewear fits you properly and is adjustable. A curved shield is a good idea as it lets you see the ball from all angles. Open, lens-less eye guards offer very little protection. Protective eyewear must be worn as designed and may not be altered in any way. Make sure that your eye protection is safety tested and properly approved.
