Handballs are blue or red in color and weigh between 2.1 ounces to 2.3 ounces. White balls weighing 1.6 ounces are also used. Handballs are smaller than racquetballs and bigger than squash balls, but are heavier and livelier than both of them. Official balls should be one and 7/8 inch in diameter. It's a good idea for newcomers to the sport to use the lighter white ball to minimize hand pain until they have learned the game and the proper way to strike the ball. The ball should be made of rubber or synthetic material with a hollow center for a higher and faster bounce.
