If you are going to be taking meat or fruit along on your hiking or camping trip it's imperative that you keep it in a cooler, so it doesn't spoil. An ideal hiking cooler should be lightweight and easy to carry with padded handles or straps. Soft style coolers or cooler bags are good for carrying around and they should have reinforced waterproof bottoms to handle the weight of the food and melted ice. Bigger coolers are usually necessary for long stay camping and they come in many styles, materials, shapes, sizes, colors and designs to suit everybody's needs. Make sure your cooler is easy to carry and is strong enough to handle the weight. It should also have a drainage spout to let out water.
