Hockey

Ice hockey can be one of the fastest and roughest team sports in the world. The speed comes from the fact that players are flying around a sheet of ice on ice skates and it is rough because body checking and other physical contact is usually allowed. However, not all ice hockey leagues allow physical contact and many children's and old timer's leagues are non contact versions of the sport. Hockey has long been an Olympic sport and it is enjoyed by males and females of all ages in North America, Russia and parts of Europe and Asia. The object of the game is simple as you try to outscore your opposition by shooting the puck into their net with a hockey stick. Where hockey originated is greatly contested, but one thing for sure is that it was first played on frozen lakes, ponds and canals. It is still played outdoors for fun, but most leagues now play in arenas. A pick up game of hockey is relatively inexpensive as all you need is a pair of skates, a stick, a puck and a frozen river. However, if you want to join a league, things can get costly as you also need protective equipment and ice time can get quite expensive as well.
