Hockey sticks have basically kept the same shape over the years, except for the introduction of the curved blade, but they have changed greatly in other ways. Original hockey sticks were made entirely of wood and then fiberglass was added to strengthen them. These days, hockey sticks are also made out of materials such as aluminum, carbon, Kevlar, titanium and graphite. You can also purchase rubber coated sticks. There is a wide variety of sticks to choose from as there are one piece and two piece sticks, those with replaceable blades and custom-made sticks. When choosing a hockey stick make sure it is the right height and weight for you. A stick that is too long can usually be cut down to size. You also need to find a blade with a curve you are comfortable with and a hockey stick with the right lie for your body. When choosing a stick you should go by personal preference not by anybody else’s guidelines as some players such as defensemen prefer longer sticks while many forwards like shorter ones. There are special wider sticks that are made for goaltenders.
