Horseshoes are exactly what they sound like. They are flat, u shaped, metal plated, shoes for horses, but it’s also the name of a popular game usually played outdoor. Horseshoe players toss horseshoes into a pit at a stake with the object of the game being to get your shoe closest to the stake. The sport is played in a variety of places such as backyards, picnics, campgrounds and bars. For the serious horseshoe player, there are also sanctioned leagues and tournaments to play in. The game isn’t too expensive to play, but you will need an area big enough to set up the pits since the stakes should be 30 feet to 40 feet apart, with an official court being 46 feet long. You will also need equipment such as horseshoes, measuring tools, carrying cases and stakes. Horseshoes can also be played with rubber, plastic and foam shoes.
