All About Horseshoe Stakes

A horseshoe stake is the target the horseshoe is pitched at. There is a stake at each end of the court and they should be centered, between the platforms, with a minimum of 21 inches from the stake to the front and back of the pit. The stakes are 40 ft. apart on regulation courts. This is measured from the front of each stake, level with the pitching platform. Stakes should be one inch in diameter and can be made of cold-rolled steel, mild iron, soft metal or any type of synthetic material. The stakes shouldn’t be shorter than 14 inches or higher than 15 inches above pit level and they should each have an approximate three inch lean toward each other.
