When ice climbers are halfway up a waterfall they usually have all of the tools they need with them attached to their bodies by belts or harnesses. They definitely don’t have any free hands to carry an equipment bag with them. However, some experienced ice climbers may carry a small backpack with them. Ice climbers do need basic equipment bags though to transport their gear and clothing to and from their icy destinations. Some ice climbers may even need more than one equipment bag. When you are buying a bag for ice climbing make sure it is lightweight, but strong enough to carry your gear, as some climbing equipment may be quite heavy. A bag with compartments in it is a good idea so you know exactly where everything is. Water resistant and breathable bags are always the best as they keep your gear and clothes dry and relatively fresh smelling. Make sure your bag is easy to carry by handles or an adjustable shoulder strap. Ice climbing equipment bags come in various colors, materials, styles and sizes.
