There are a few different devices you can use for ice climbing eye protection. Nothing is written in stone or ice for that matter, but you should always make sure that you protect your eyes while ice climbing. You need to protect yourself from objects that may fall from above and from shards of ice that may shoot out at you while you are digging into the ice. The type of protection you use may depend on the style of helmet you wear. Some people prefer to wear a hockey style helmet that has a visor attached to it. Other climbers like to wear protective goggles. Whatever you decide to wear, make sure it fits you properly and doesn’t hamper your vision. If you wear goggles or a visor the lenses and visor should be fog resistant, scratch resistant and shatterproof for maximum protection. Ice climbing protection comes in a variety of styles, colors, sizes and materials.
