Lacrosse balls traditionally were made of wood or some type of hide that was stuffed with material such as grass, hair or sand. Lacrosse balls are still quite hard today as they are made of solid rubber, and weigh about five to six ounces, and can reach speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. Most league balls are either white, yellow or orange in color. Some practice balls are made with foam injection and come in various colors, including glow in the dark. They are between seven inches to eight inches in diameter and must bounce between 43 inches to 51 inches when dropped from a height of six feet onto a solid wooden floor.
