In lawn bowling, each player has a matching set of four bowls. Bowls are not perfectly round so they will curve slightly instead of rolling straight. One side of the bowl is slightly flattened which leads to a bias towards that side and that makes for a challenging and exciting game. The jack, which is the small target ball isn't flattened. Lawn bowling has been around for centuries and balls have evolved from wood to mainly hard composite, resin materials to withstand the constant contact between each other during a game. Bowls come in a few different sizes and weights, but the maximum weight that can be used is 1.59 kilograms. Bowls can come with different designs on them and in various colors.
