All mountain climbers should wear helmets whenever they are climbing. Not only do they help protect your head in case of a fall, but they also protect you from falling tools, debris or rocks from above. Helmets have strong hard shells made of plastic or composite materials and inner padding usually made of foam or synthetic material. Make sure the helmet is adjustable to fit you well and is well ventilated. Remember you may be wearing a hat underneath or wearing a headlamp, so make sure it's large enough to fit over top. Your helmet should also meet all safety standards. Helmets come in various materials, sizes, styles and colors.
