Petanque can often be a very informal game, which can basically be played on any surface that is hard enough for the ball to roll on. You should wear the proper footwear according to the surface you will be playing on and the weather conditions. If you are playing on the beach you may not wear anything, but be careful not to drop the ball on your toes. Many people just wear their regular everyday shoes while playing, which is fine, but make sure that whatever you have on your feet fits properly and comfortably. Shoes come in various materials, sizes, styles and colors, but if you are playing at a club make sure to see if they have any rules regarding footwear.
