Ringette is a team sport that is a little similar to ice hockey as it is a fast-paced competition that is played on an ice rink however it is a non contact sport. The players use a straight, bladeless stick to pass, carry, and shoot a rubber ring. The object of the game is to score as many goals as you can on your opponents goaltender. As far as sports go, ringette is a relatively new game. It originated in Canada in 1963 in North Bay, Ontario and the first-ever ringette game was played in the winter of 1963-1964. Ringette was originally developed as a sport for girls and for the first 10 years games were centered in Ontario and Quebec; however, it quickly spread across Canada. Ringette is also played in other countries such as the U.S.A, Sweden, France, Japan, Australia, Estonia, Russia, and Finland. To play the game competitively you will need a stick, skates and protective equipment. You also need the ice to play on and that is why most ringette games are played in organized leagues at local arenas. Roller ringette and indoor floor ringette are also played in many countries.
