Rodeo is a general sport consisting of many separate competitions and events which include: bull riding, bareback bronco riding, saddle bronco riding, steer wrestling, team roping, calf roping, steer roping, women's barrel racing, breakaway roping, goat roping and pole bending. Many of these events are timed competitions to see who can do them the fastest or the longest. Rodeo is a traditional North American sport that originated about 150 years ago as a ranching competition. Its participants include cowboys, cowgirls, rodeo clowns and bull fighters. There are professional rodeos, amateur rodeos, college rodeos, Native American rodeos and women’s rodeos. Rodeos can be held either outdoor or indoor and it was an exhibition sport at the 2000 Winter Olympic Games. It’s definitely not a sport for everybody as it takes years of practice and money to become a skilled cowboy or cowgirl.
