You may find your hands hurting or blistering during or after rowing, so you might want to wear gloves to cushion them and lessen the pain. However, if you still feel uncomfortable with gloves on, you may be holding the oars too tight. You should wear lightweight gloves that are water resistant. They should have some padding in the palm area and be strong and durable to withstand constant rowing. The best gloves are called pogies as they have holes in them for the blade to fit through, so your hand is in contact with the oar. Regular gloves keep your hands warm, but they can make it difficult to control the oar, however, when it's very cold out, gloves should be worn as it's hard to control oars with cold hands.
