Running put a great amount of stress on your feet and while shoes aren't essential for running, the majority of people prefer to wear them. Shoes protect your feet as well as cushion and comfort them and can actually make you run faster. You should choose your shoes based on the type of running you will be doing as different types of running take place on different surfaces such as tracks, grass or cement. Whatever you're doing make sure they are lightweight and water resistant. Shoes should have good soles for traction and when they wear out or become uneven you should buy a new pair. Make sure they fit properly to the shape of your feet, so they don't cause blisters or irritate them. Don't go by sizes when buying running shoes, go by fit and comforta. Numbers mean nothing. Shoes come in various sizes, styles, designs, colors and materials.
