Skateboarding is a relatively new sport that is mainly popular with young people in North America and parts of Europe. Skateboarders enjoy it as a recreational activity, and as a sport, and some people even use skateboards as a mode of transportation. Skateboarding has gone from a sidewalk sport to a larger scale. Skateboard parks and ramps are now popping up throughout the country. It's quite an inexpensive sport, all you really need is a skateboard and a pair of shoes, but you should always protect your body and head, while riding your board because you can get seriously hurt if you fall off. Various protective gear is available for your body and helmets are available for your head. Most competitions make helmets mandatory.
