Ski wax is put on the bottom of your skis to help the skis perform better on the snow. There are generally two types of wax which are kick and glide. Glide wax consists of a range of waxes applied to Nordic and alpine skis. The wax is aimed at decreasing drag, which in turn increases speed. It also protects the base of your skis. Kick wax consists of various waxes used in cross country skiing. Kick wax comes in two forms, which are hard and klister. Hard wax is a tar-like substance which is used for new snow, while klister wax is a sticky semi-liquid, which is designed for old snow or snow that's relatively warm. You need to make sure you apply the proper wax for the conditions of the snow, so don’t be afraid to ask for help at your local ski store or ski resort.
