Softball is very similar to baseball except it's played with a bigger ball. It's an Olympic sport that is enjoyed by men and women of all ages around the world. All you need for a bare bones version of the game is a bat and ball, but for league and competitive play you also need bases, gloves, shoes and protective equipment. The equipment isn't too expensive and if you buy good quality gear it should last a full grown adult for a few years. It's a good idea to protect yourself whenever playing because the ball is hard and can travel at high speeds. It's also very unpredictable once it leaves the bat.
