In most softball leagues you are allowed to use wooden bats, aluminum bats and graphite or composite bats. It's better to be safe than sorry, so check it out with your league before buying a bat. Bats must be round and smooth and some leagues have weight, diameter and length limits. The bat should have a safety grip, so it doesn't go flying out of your hand every time you take a swing. You will have to try out a few bats to see which one suits you the best, as you will need to be comfortable with the weight and length of it. Bats come in various materials, weights, lengths and colors.
