Another area of a catchers' body that needs to be protected from wayward bats and balls are the lower legs. It's a good idea to protect your knees and shins while catching. Most pads are built of a lightweight composite material for maximum outer protection with foam inner padding and nylon linings to keep you cool and dry. They have Velcro or other style straps for a proper fit. They also have wings for side leg protection and toe guards. Shin guards come in various sizes, materials and colors. Batters also need to protect themselves from foul balls and wild pitches and similar leg pads are available for them which cover the ankles and shins.
