The sport of squash got its name because of the way the ball squashes, when it’s hit with the racket. The game originated in England, in the mid 1800s, and is sometimes called squash rackets as well. Squash can be played by individuals or teams of two - called doubles. It’s played in a four walled court and players use a racket to hit a small hollow ball. It’s often played competitively, recreationally or as a good way to socialize and stay in shape at the same time. It’s a sport that’s enjoyed by men and women of all ages around the world. You really need a court to play squash in, so most people join a gym or a club. Once you’ve paid the entry fee, it’s rather an inexpensive sport to play as you really only need a racket, ball and good pair of shoes.
