All About Surfboards

Surfboards have evolved from wood, to foam and fiberglass, to composite materials and are now lighter, stronger and faster than ever before. Big boards glide easily, but turn slowly and small boards do the opposite, so you should decide on the type of board you want. Boards that are less than seven feet long with pointed noses are called short boards and are good for aggressive, rapid maneuvers. Boards between nine and ten feet with rounded noses are long boards and are ideal for smooth turns. Boards come in various weights, widths and thickness and bigger people should really use bigger boards. Many shops make their own boards, so you can probably get one custom made to suit you. Don't forget to put wax or a traction pad on the board to get a better grip and remember you can fix damaged boards.
