Table tennis is an excellent way to sharpen your reflexes, relax or fire up your competitive spirit. It originated from lawn tennis and was known to be played as early as the late 1800s. Other variations of the game called Whiff Whaff, Flim Flam and Gossima were played in England and the game commonly became known as ping pong and was trademarked in 1901. Ping pong spread throughout Europe and eventually became known as table tennis. Its popularity skyrocketed with men and women of all ages and became an Olympic sport in 1988. Today, table tennis is believed to be the second most played sport throughout the world, with many professional sports teams having tables in their dressing rooms. It's a relatively inexpensive game to play. You do need to purchase a table, racquets, and balls, but if you take care of them, they should last you for a few years.
