You can't water ski without a rope and you can't ski properly with a weak one, so make sure you buy strong and durable rope. The rope should have some elasticity to it and give a little when you turn and change speed. Most rope for skiing is about 70 feet to 75 feet long and has up to 10 colored sections or takeoffs. The takeoffs enable you to shorten or lengthen the rope from one loop to the next. If you want to ski a little closer to the boat you can just shorten it one or more loops. Make sure the rope has been tested for a high breaking strength. Rope comes in various materials and widths.
