Waterpolo balls are usually yellow in color and come with a good gripping outer surface, so they can be held with one hand. The balls are waterproof and have an inflatable bladder, which is generally coated in rubber. After a lot of use, these balls often lose their grip or puncture at one of the seams; making them unusable for match play. Balls come in two general sizes. Size 5 balls are used in men’s play, while size 4 balls are used by women. There are some smaller balls available for children and for mini-polo, but they don’t don't have a standard size and are often green in color. Balls shouldn’t have any external strapping or covering of grease or similar substances.
