If you want to travel on a board at speeds up to 50 miles per hour, then windsurfing is the sport for you. Windsurfing is often referred to as boardsailing or sail boarding as it combines both sailing and surfing techniques. It's a relatively new sport as it was developed in the 1960s. Basically you attach a sail to a board, much like a surfboard, and you stand on the board and move the sail. The sport has gained popularity with men and women in Europe and Australia. There are various types of windsurfing including racing, freestyle, slalom, and wave sailing. Kite surfing is also a form of windsurfing in which a kite is used instead of a sail. The sport is relatively inexpensive as a board and sail should last a few years.
