All About Windsurfing Sails

Different sails are used for various types of windsurfing, including wave, slalom, freestyle, free ride and race. Sails are measured in square meters and can be anywhere from 3m2 to 6.5m2 for wave sails and from 6m2 to 12.5m2 for racing sails. Freestyle and free ride sails usually span somewhere between these two. If you are competing you should always check the rules, regulations and specifications on the equipment. Bigger sails should be used in lighter wind, with smaller sails being used in strong winds. Most sails are made of polyester, Mylar and Kevlar. Smaller sails are available for children and you can buy a bag to store and carry your sails in.
