Some wrestling organizations make headgear mandatory and some don’t. However, wrestling is such a physical sport with a lot of contact so it’s a good idea for wrestlers to protect their heads at all times, especially the ears. Wrestling headgear comes in many different styles. The headgear doesn’t fully cover your head like a helmet, as most headgear fits over your head and concentrates on protecting your ears, while leaving other areas of your head exposed. Make sure your headgear is lightweight and has adequate protection for your ears. The headgear must fit properly, so it doesn’t move about your head or come off while wrestling.
